For over 60 years, Boy Scout Troop 98 and Cub Scout Pack 98 has been teaching Brookland boys all about scouting. This Saturday, they are inviting the neighborhood to join them in some BBQ Fun and Gear up with the Northern Virginia Scout Shop. From a community message:

You are Invited to Pack & Troop 98’s Welcome Back and Join Scouting BBQ – SAT., AUG. 26

Our first BIG event of the new scouting year is here, and you’re invited to join Cub Scout Pack 98 & Boy Scout Troop 98 and over 61 years of scouting adventures here in Brookland for our Welcome Back & Join Scouting BBQ, Saturday, August 26, from 12 noon to 3 pm at St. Anthony of Padua Church and School at 3400 12th Streets, NE, Washington, DC!

Interested in learning more about Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts? Come on by and meet with leaders and scouts from Cub Scout Pack 98 (for boys 7-10 years old / grades 1 – 5) or Boy Scout Troop 98 (for boys 11-17 years old).

Pack 98 is also one of the only Cub Scout Packs in D.C. offering the Lion Cub Scout pilot program for boys 5-6 years old or Kindergarten!

The Northern Virginia Scout Shop will have a mobile Trading Post setup at our BBQ and scout uniforms and gear will be available for purchase! Please use the Scout Shop for convenience.

We’ll have a big grill cooking — food and beverages will be available — so everyone can enjoy a snack (or even bring your own grillables!), catch up with others on your summer adventures, register & pay your scouting fees for the year, and even stock up on scouting gear!
Every scout that registers will get a ticket for food or drink!

If you would like to invite someone else to join in the fun, please forward this email!
Can’t make it? No worries, there’s no registration deadlines or boundaries in scouting!
Just join us at any Pack 98 or Troop 98 meeting at the St. Anthony of Padua Church and School’s cafeteria, 3400 12th Street, NE, Washington, DC.

Brookland’s Pack and Troop 98’s Welcome Back And Joint Scouting BBQ Saturday

Pack 98For nearly 60 years, Boy Scout Troop 98 and Cub Scout Pack 98 has been teaching Brookland boys all about scouting. This Saturday, they are inviting the neighborhood to join them in some BBQ Fun and Gear up with the Northern Virginia Scout Shop. Here is a message we received from our friends from Cub Scout Pack 98: Troop 98

Do you have boys in your family 7 to 10 years old or in grades 1 to 5 (Cub Scouts) or boys 11 to 17 years old (Boy Scouts) who might be interested in being part of our scouting fun? If so, you’re invited to join us for the Pack and Troop 98 Join Scouting BBQ this Saturday August 29, 12noon to 3pm @ St. Anthony of Padua Church in Brookland at the corner 12th and Monroe Streets, NE! There will be a big grill going, so stop on by with your own grillables, and we can throw them on the grill; or if you like, there will also be some food/drink for sale as well! This is a great opportunity to learn what Scouts is all about (fun, sports, camping, citizenship, earning awards, …), and to meet families and boys who are members of Pack 98.

We’re also excited to announce that the Northern Virginia Scout Shop will have a mobile Trading Post setup at our BBQ and scout uniforms and gear will be available for purchase! No need to drive out to the Scout Shop, we’re bringing it to you! Check out this price list to review the items you’ll be able to order and have ready for you to pay for and pickup on Saturday. Send an email to Cubmaster Bryan if you would like directions on how to place your advance order.

For nearly 60 years, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church has chartered Boy Scout Troop 98 and Cub Scout Pack 98 in Washington, D.C.’s Brookland neighborhood, and our boys have been having the time of their lives making new friends and learning new things in an environment designed to help them succeed. From building own pinewood derby cards to learning how to roast the perfect marshmallow with his best friends camping, taking hikes in the city and beyond, your boy will LOVE being a Scout.

  • Cub Scout Pack 98 is for boys in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouting, but may be eligible to join Troop 98 depending on their age and grade. Pack 98 meets weekly on Thursdays at 7pm throughout the school year.
  • Boy Scout Troop 98 is for boys age 11, or at least 10 and have completed the fifth grade, or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award, and have not yet turned 18.  Troop 98 meets weekly on Monday evenings throughout the school year.

Cub Scout Pack 98 meets weekly on Thursday evenings in Dens that are grouped by grade Tiger (1st grade), Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Dens and have regular Pack meetings with award ceremonies and more. We also have activities on weekends, including Pinewood Derby, overnight family camping trips in the fall and spring, day hikes, community service activities, and much more.

Boy Scout Troop 98 meets weekly in Patrols on Monday evenings that are organized and led by the boys. After they’ve been given the proper guidance from those with experience and know-how, they take their own lead, going places they’ve never gone, seeing things they’ve never seen, and diving into the rugged world of outdoor adventure, relying on teamwork and character to accomplish what everyone else thinks is impossible. We also have activities on weekends, including camping trips in the fall and spring, day hikes, community service activities, and much more.

Pack 98 and Troop 98 are a welcoming Pack and Troop and do not discriminate against any potential scout, family, or leader. Anyone who is committed to the goals of scouting — creating a space where boys can interact positively with other boys, teaching appreciation and respect for nature, and promoting other character values such as sportsmanship, teamwork, and the importance of community service — is encouraged to join.

All Pack 98 and Troop 98 parents are encouraged to volunteer, as it makes a huge impact on the quality time you get to spend with your child and also gives you an opportunity to lead by example in your community. Scouting is designed to help even the busiest parents/guardians get involved. If you can give an hour per day, per month, or per year, we have a position for you — volunteer today!
