Please join Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners Gayle Hall Carley 5B01, Ursula Higgins 5B02, Michael Morrison 5B03, the Executive Office of the Mayor, MOCRS, 5th District Police Department, and community members of Brookland, Michigan Park, North Michigan Park, Rhode Island Avenue, Queens Chapel, and Woodridge for our Neighbor’s Day Celebrating Diversity. The occasion will be celebrated on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
Taft Recreation Center (aka: Dwight A. Mosley Sports Complex, Dwight Mosley-Taft Field and Playground) is located at 1800 Perry Street.
Many thanks to reader and great neighbor Debee for passing along the wonderful news about a new playground renovation coming to the neighborhood. The Dwight Mosley/Taft grounds will undergo a $1.5 Million overhaul. The planned upgrades include artificial turf and natural grass areas, lights, field goals, backstop fencing, resurfacing of basketball courts, bleachers and resurfaced track. Check out the presentation from the Department of General services from last month below.
There will be another community update meeting later this summer, and the procurement for a design contractor is scheduled for this fall. The Dwight Mosley Athletic Complex is located at 18th and Otis Streets, NE.
Thanks to Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for Single Member District 5B02, Ursula Higgins, for passing along information about the Family/Community Day at Taft/Dwight Mosley Athletic Complex this Saturday from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. In a message to neighborhood businesses she wrote:
“Looking back to when I moved into the Woodridge neighborhood in 1996, Taft Recreation Center, now the Dwight Mosley Athletic Complex, had a whirlwind of activities for the community that brought us together in unity. The community day activity is bringing this unity back to Taft. We like to believe that due to our advocacy in the community; will be shared in bringing about some of the many positive changes to this community.”
