Robot Little Free Library – Restored And Ready To Serve

Back in August 2014, we wrote about the the free little library that was a magazine dispenser turned robot. Over time, the Robot Little Library took a beating from vandalism and the elements. Once Scrap DC, where it was located, closed up shop, the robot had no place to call home. So we decided to take it in, spruce it up and give it a new lease on life.

Unfortunately, life got in the way of good intentions, and Astrid (the better half of the Brookland Bridge) didn’t really take action until about three months ago when she finally started to work on the robot. She removed rust, broken metal, screws and glass pieces and added a fresh coat of paint, and what we think some cool new features. Next we needed a new home for the robot library. We approached the management team at Brookland’s Finest restaurant and they were immediately enthusiastic about the project. About a month ago, we put on the finishing touches and rolled him into place.

So now readers, young and old, have another option to exchange books through the little library. So far we are excited to see that it has been pretty popular, we have done two big fill ups, and  have been adding books periodically. Still, it has been a challenge to keep the robot library stocked at all times, so if you have any extra books around the house, please consider stopping by, donating, and helping us keep the library stocked. If you enjoy reading, likewise, “check out” the books and please return them when you are done. Here are some pictures we took of the completed robot little library – just waiting for Brookland neighbors to stop by. The robot is located in front of Brookland’s Finest, 3126 12th Street NE. (You need flash to see the photos, if you can’t see them, click here.)
