Brookland LGBT Neighborhood Pride Party/Potluck Saturday

On Saturday, June 10, 2017 there will be a potluck celebration for Brookland LGBT neighbors and friends at Wohlfarth Gallery (3418 9th Street NE) from 7:00 PM to 10 PM. Grilled Nathan’s Hot Dogs, a large cake, and a non alcoholic punch will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring other items to grill, or a side dish and/or wine or beer. Hope to see lots of neighbors there!

DC Brau Releases Pride Pils In Support Of Capital Pride, Get It At Brookland’s Finest

We were excited to learn that nearby brewer DC Brau will re-package 200 cases of their Brau Pils as Pride Pils in honor of Capital Pride, Washington, DC’s celebration of the LGBT community. If you would like to give it a try, Brookland’s Finest has partnered with DC Brau for the weekend to serve their special Pride Pils from June 8-11. From a press release:

Proceeds from the sale of PRIDE PILS will benefit local LGBTQ youth empowerment program, SMYAL, and The Blade Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving the Blade’s legacy while funding new enterprise journalism projects and encouraging the next generation of LGBT journalists.

Sounds great! We can’t wait to try it.

LGBT Happy Hour At Smith Public Trust – St. Patrick’s Day

Every month the LGBT community from the greater Brookland area (and Edgewood, Michigan Park, etc.) gets together for fun, community building and general neighborly good times. This month the group will be having a St. Patrick’s Day happy hour on Thursday March 17th starting at 6:00 pm. All are welcome. Smith Public Trust is located at 3514 12th Street NE.

This coming Wednesday, December 16th there will be a Brookland LGBT Holiday Happy Hour starting at 6:00 pm at Right Proper Brewery, 920 Girard St NE. Check out Brookland’s newest hot spot at a private event just for Brookland’s  LGBT group! Enjoy delicious fresh brewed craft beer and celebrate the holidays with neighbors and friends. The brewery does not have a kitchen, so please bring a snack/finger food to share or we can order food delivery. All are welcome and hope to see you there!

Update – Brookland LGBT Happy Hour Saturday At The Dew Drop Inn

Earlier today we wrote about the July party for the Brookland area LGBT group. We now have an update that the event will be a Happy Hour at the area’s newest hot spot, the Dew Drop Inn. There will be Happy Hour specials until 7:30 pm as well as an all night wine special. (The date and time is still the same – Saturday night July 25th starting at 6:00 pm.) The Dew Drop Inn is located at located at 2801 8th St. NE, near the entrance to the Met Branch Trail.

Brookland Artspace Lofts To Host Charity Concert Featuring Ryan Amador

Here is an interesting music event happening in the neighborhood soon. From the Facebook event page:

Singer-songwriter, Ryan Amador, is hitting the road to visit Washington, D.C.! He will perform his songs at the intimate Brookland Artspace Lofts. Admission is free, and donations are accepted with 50% going to benefit Casa Ruby. The performance will be held on July 20th at 7:30 PM, with doors opening at 7:00 PM.

Ryan Amador will perform a medley of songs from his music career at the Brookland Artspace Lofts in Washington, D.C. This one night only performance will allow audiences to get up close and personal with Ryan and enjoy complimentary beverages and light fare throughout the evening. While admission is free, 50% of donations collected are to benefit Casa Ruby, a bilingual, multi-cultural, LGBT organization dedicated to providing lifesaving services and programs for members of the LGBT community.

Come enjoy an evening of soulful, inspiring music in support of an important cause!

Join Councilmember McDuffie At The Capital Pride Parade This Saturday

Astrid and I have known Kenyan McDuffie since before he was the Ward 5 Councilmember and before gay marriage was legal in DC. We can attest that back then he was an ardent supporter of LGBT rights and continues to be an ally of the community. That’s why we are happy to post this flyer asking for volunteers to march in the 40th Annual Capital Pride Parade this Saturday with the McDuffie  team. We have marched  in the parade in the past, and it is an exhilarating feeling- why not give it a try? Check out the details below.
