Christmas Caroling Saturday, Continuing Over 50 Years Of Tradition

Christmas Carolers Gather Before Hitting The Streets (2011 Event)

For well over 50 years, Brooklanders have organized to serenade friends and neighbors with Christmas carols. I have participated in the annual event in previous years and have had fantastic time and met so many warm, friendly neighbors. If you don’t know a lot of carols by heart, don’t worry, sheet music will be provided. If you don’t sing well, again don’t worry, it’s all about the community spirit. From a community announcement:

Come Christmas Caroling through the neighborhood this Saturday, December 16. Everyone looking to spread Christmas cheer and best wishes for 2018 is invited to meet at Rosary House, 1201 Monroe Street, NE, Saturday, December 16, at 6:30pm. We will travel through central Brookland for about an hour and a half and finish at 1026 Newton Street for a potluck dinner, 8pm. Come and share your holiday spirit with Engine company 17, shoppers at CVS and various households as we move from block to block singing.

It is so great to see the looks of happiness, appreciation and surprise on people’s faces as you passed them on the street and when they came out of their houses and businesses. All are welcome to join in for as long as you want. If this doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit, nothing will.
