Halloween Events This Weekend: Dog Parade, Pumpkins, And Costumes

Halloween Brookland NE Washington DCWith Halloween right around the corner, it is no surprise that that neighborhood events are already starting to pop up. Here is what’s going on this weekend:

Langdon Dog Park Pooch Parade on Saturday October 24th. Parade your costumed pooch and enter him/her into the best costume contest for some fabulous prizes from neighborhood vets, groomers and pet supply shops.

 9:30 am – Gather at the dog park for a brief pooch parade
10:00 am- Registration for contest and prizes
10:30 am – Judging starts.
There will be a prize for:
– Cutest costume
– Best dog owner lookalike or paired e..g. – Dorothy and Toto
– Scariest
– Most original
– How did you get your dog to wear that?

There will be treats for you and your four legged friends and tons of fun for all. Meet and greet members of the Langdon Dog Park Association (LPDA) as well as your neighbors.If there is a steady hard rain, the event will be canceled. Brookland Pint Kids Pumpkin Painting Event on  Saturday October 24th starting at noon, while supplies last. For more info, go here. Brookland Pint is located at 716 Monroe Street, NE.

Redeemer City Church will host its first annual Harvest Festival and kid’s costume contest on Sunday October 25th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. There will be free food, prizes and games. Check out more information here. Redeemer City Church is located at 1404 Jackson Street NE.

Halloween Events In Brookland For The Kiddies

Halloween Brookland NE Washington DCThose of you with little ghosts and goblins might be interested in the following Brookland area events for kids:

  • Brookland Kids Halloween Parade: From the Brookland Kids Facebook page:

When: Saturday, October 25th, 2:00 – 5:00 pm (rain date Saturday, November 1)
Where: Meet at the Arts Walk at 2:00 pm for the parade, which will run from the Arts Walk to Turkey Thicket (sidewalks only) and then around the Turkey Thicket track. If you have little ones, feel free to meet us at Turkey Thicket and just do the track walk-around portion of the parade.
What: Post-parade party with snacks and activities to follow at Turkey Thicket field.  As in previous years, this is a potluck party, so please help us out and bring some snacks. This is getting to be a bigger event every year, so help us make it successful.

  • Catholic University’s Annual “Halloween on Campus” on Thursday, October 30th 5 – 8 pm at Curley Court, on Catholic University’s Campus. CUA invites Brookland community families to join them for a fun Halloween night! Kids can enjoy a wide variety of treats, crafts, and activities including trick or treating. The event is run by CUA student volunteers, who make the night a safe and enjoyable evening for community guests. The event is FREE! Brookland In Photos – Things Are Getting Spoooooky!

With Halloween right around the corner, the neighborhood is starting to take on a frightening look! I am not sure if these decorations will make it through the Frankenstorm, but there was a lot of partying and merriment in Brookland over the weekend.

  • Catholic University’s Annual “Halloween on Campus” on Thursday, October 25th 6 – 8 pm at Curley Court, on Catholic University’s Campus. CUA invites Brookland community families to join them for a fun Halloween night! Kids can enjoy a wide variety of treats, crafts, and activities including trick or treating.   • Brookland Kids Halloween Parade on Sunday October 28th at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, 1100 Michigan Ave NE, beginning at 3:00 pm
  • Halloween “Astro Treats” If the weather is clear on Halloween, Wednesday October 31st,  long-time Brooklander Guy Brandenburg will set up one of  his home-made telescopes on the 1300 block of Randolph so all the little princesses, fairies, goblins, ghouls and ghosts (and their parents) can look at some spooky, out-of-this-world marvels.
