Pop Up Book Store, Duende District, At The Arts Walk Through Sunday

We thought book loving Brooklanders would be interested in Duende District’s pop up store at the Arts Walk. The focus of the business is to create a bookstore community that “specifically supports and empowers people of color”. From the website:

The bookstore at large will be popping up in our Brookland workspace from September 8 – September 17 with a selection of fiction, poetry, memoirs/essays, beverage + cookbooks, art + music titles, graphic novels, local zines, and children’s books. The pop-up will also feature the work of 2 DC-based artists, Aliana Grace Bailey and Lory Ivey Alexander.

Come meet Duende District’s first resident artists, Lory Ivey Alexander & Aliana Grace Bailey.

We’ll have an art viewing, light refreshments and you’ll have a chance to go home with gorgeous, powerful pieces from two of D.C.’s finest WoC artists.

Brookland Pint’s 3 Year Anniversary Party Saturday- Pig Roast, Moon Bounce And More

It’s hard to believe 3 years have gone by since Brookland Pint first opened its doors. From the event page:

Third Thursday on the Artswalk is coming up again this Thursday August 17th from 5-8 PM, with lots of events for the whole family. Once again, Fox Loves Taco will be there giving previews of what we can expect from their new restaurant, opening soon. From the event page:

This month’s Third Thursday event looks to be a lot of fun.  As a bonus neighbors will get to try out eats from Fox Loves Taco, the new taco spot opening up at the Arts Walk later this summer. From the event page:

DC Books To Prisons Bake Sale Saturday At The Arts Walk Farmer’s Market

DC Books to Prisons  is a volunteer organization that sends 15,000 books a year to prisoners in over 600 US prisons. This coming Saturday, June 24 they will have a fund raising bake sale from 10 AM – 1 PM at the Farmer’s Market at Monroe Street Market’s Arts Walk. From the event page:

Stop by for a wide variety of treats, including homemade cookies, brownies, and sweet and savory quick breads. Dogs are welcome at the market and there will be homemade dog biscuits available for purchase as well.

All proceeds go to DC Books to Prisons so they can continue their work to provide free books to individual prisoners in over 600 institutions across the United States.

Third Thursday at the studios at the Monroe Street Market Arts Walk is a great time to get out into the neighborhood and enjoy the summer nights. The series of Third Thursdays kicks off this month and will take place through September.  The kickoff event will take place on Thursday May 18th. From the Facebook event page:

Bring Your Vinyl To Saturday’s Farmers Market For Neighborhood Record Day

We thought music loving neighbors would be interested in Neighborhood Record Day coming to this Saturday’s farmer’s market at the Arts Walk. From their Facebook post:

Have some old (or new!) LPs lying around the house? Bring your favorites out to market this weekend – we’ll have a turntable and speakers set up to keep the tunes goin’. If you want to bring out more of the collection – this is a swap too!

Farmers Market On The Arts Walk Returns Saturday – Facepainting, Yoga, More

We are sure readers will be excited to learn that the Farmers Market operated at the Monroe Street Market Arts Walk returns this Saturday, April 22nd. The market will occur every Saturday through early winter and is located at 716 Monroe Street NE.  Check out the Facebook post below announcing the start date for 2017 and the lineup activities for the day.
