Those of us who follow the Ward 5 arts scene know that Art Enables is a local powerhouse of positive vibes with a fantastic mission. The non-profit organization represents over thirty artists with developmental disabilities and provides them with the resources they need to become visual artists, and 60% of revenue from sales. However, Art Enables also has interesting and engaging art shows as part of its “Off Rhode Studio” shows. Their upcoming Off Rhode exhibit will showcase artists from Ward 5. Opening Reception Saturday July 13 1-4 pm
Reception is open to the public and free of charge.
From Dance Place, to the Monroe Street Studios, to the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Ward 5 is home to some of the most diverse talents in the city. Artists Off-Rhode is your chance to experience some of the visual artists currently living and working in Ward 5.
With the support of Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, and events such as the upcoming opening of the Brookland Studios, Ward 5 is the up and coming destination for artists of all stripes. To quote McDuffie: “Our community is not only inspired by the arts, our community is employed in the arts, and educated by the arts.”
Join Art Enables in celebrating community and the creative forces fueling our area’s development and see new work from a sampling of the diverse artists found in Ward 5: Quilted wall hangings by Sandra Hassan, large colorful oils by Peter Harper, delicate plaster surface works by Lisa Rosenstein, the lyrical figures of TH Gomillion and much more!

Artist Talk with Ward 5 Panel Wednesday, July 17, 2013 6 -8 pm:
A panel open to all artists from across the ward to discuss new opportunities and news from Lavinia Wolfarth, our Ward 5 commissioner and the force behind Wolfarth Galleries in Brookland. The discussion will focus on creating an engaged, creative community-focused talk with an eye toward the future.
All events are open to the public and free of charge.
Art Enables is located in nearby Woodridge at 2204 Rhode Island Avenue, NE 20018 and they are open from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, and open on weekends for special events. Go Ward 5 Artists!
