We learned in October that local development company Lock 7 Development is planning to build a 16-20 unit condo project at the corner of 12th and Franklin Streets, NE. As a reminder, the development will build 1300 square foot units that will span two levels, townhouse-style. The condos may also have private decks and roofdecks. The developer submitted a raze permit in October to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) to remove the existing buildings on the property. This winter construction fence went up and many people have wondered when things would get underway. We recently did a search of DCRA permits and found that Lock 7 was issued their raze permit on February 28th. Because this development project is not requesting any zoning changes, it is a “matter of right” project that does not have to seek approval by the ANC or the community. By now demolition equipment is on site, so it shouldn’t be too much longer till construction is underway.
