Tomorrow, Wednesday, December 4, Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie will host a meeting with WMATA representatives to discuss plans to develop the area arround the Brookland Metro Station. The meeting will be from 6:30 – 8:00 PM at Casey Trees, which is located at 3030 12th St N.E. Let’s show up and send a message – Brookland deserves thoughtful, coordinated development that preserves our green space. If you would like more details on why WMATA’s solicitation to develop land at the Brookland/CUA Metro stop needs to be re-thought check out our posts here and here. Bottom line – when the development is completed – what do we want preserved? The unattractive paved “bus loop” or the over 20 mature trees that make up the “Brookland Green”? When it comes time to attract quality retailers and residents – which view from their store/restaurant/home do you think would be more inviting – this?
This doesn’t make sense. We do not oppose the development, we want it to be the best it can be. If you agree please take a second to sign this petition developed with the BNCA Brookland Green Committee and other civic leaders.
