The good folks at Dance Place have organized Art on 8th, a new, free series of “interactive music, dance and visual arts events for all ages and abilities”. I am pretty excited that we are starting to see the long-awaited Monroe Street Market area start to come alive with the artsy environment many of us have longed for. Here is the July line up from the Dance Place website:
July 18 at 6:30 pm: Duende Quartet: Smooth Latin Jazz (Monroe Street Market Stage)
July 19 at 6:30pm: POP (People Objects Play): Interactive Movement Fun with recycled objects (Arts Plaza)
July 20 at 12:30pm: Create flowers from recycled objects with Carla Perlo (Studio 21)
July 25 at 6:30pm: Afro-Cuban Jazz Improvisation with The Vibe Collective (Monroe Street Market Stage)
July 26 at 6:30pm: African Dance and Drumming with Coyaba Dance Theater (Monroe Street Market Stage)
July 27 at 12:30pm: Arts and Crafts from recycled materials with Andrea Petty-Brown (Studio 21)
- The Monroe Street Market stage is located at the end of the Arts Walk near the Metro by the Drew (Michigan Ave) Bridge
- The Arts Plaza is the plaza located in front of Dance Place – 3225 8th St. NE
- Studio 21 is one of the studios located on the Arts Walk that runs the length between Brookland Works Buildings, situated between Monroe and Michigan Aves, NE at 8th Street NE.
