DC Humane Society’s Urgent Call For Volunteers and Adoption Families

We realize this is not specifically about Brookland, but there are many pet lovers in our neighborhood, who might be interested to help out the Humane Society this weekend, or even think about adopting an animal in need.

Here is the information provided by the Humane Society:
During the month of May we took in more than 800 animals. Since then, hundreds more have come through our doors and both shelters are FULL. We urgently need to find these animals homes. This Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, we will be waiving the adoption fees on ALL animals ($15 DC license fee applies to all dog adoptions for DC residents only).
We will be promoting this special widely and are expecting much more traffic than normal at both locations. This weekend will be very similiar to the May adoption event, but will be held at both New York Avenue and Georgia Avenue.
Help needed will include (but not be limited to): dog handlers, crowd control, answering questions, cat specialists, and more. If you can help, please sign up here.
We also need help moving woodchips so the play yards will be ready TONIGHT from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at New York Avenue. This will need to be done before the event. If you can help, please email mbell@….
If you can not help at the shelters, please help us get the word out! We will need you to help us pass out flyers. You can download a flyer here to post where you work, hand out in your neighborhood, post in you local coffee shop, etc. For more ideas on how you can help us get the word out, please contact cdiller@….
We appreciate your help with this urgent call to action. With so many animals entering our shelters on a daily basis, we could not continue to save these precious lives without your help.
If you have questions, or need additional information, please email volunteer@….
