About 10 days ago we posted about the exciting new playground installation at Noyes Park and a new neighborhood group that started to support it. Well, it turned out that a group, the Friends of Noyes Park, already existed. The neighborhood really owes them a debt of gratitude for all the hard work they put in over the years to make the new park happen. Luckily, Carol Daugherty, the leader of The Friends of Noyes group was very excited to hear that there are more interested neighbors out there, since the group hadn’t been active in a while. So, the groups combined under the banner of Friends of Noyes and met with the Department of Parks and Recreation last week to plan for an upcoming community meeting. The meeting will be this Wednesday, June 12th, 2013, 6:30 pm at the Noyes School Auditorium (2725 10th Street, NE). Please note that this is an updated meeting place and time from when we previously announced the meeting.

The meeting will be attended by representatives from the Department of Parks and Recreation who will share information about the new Noyes Park, how it will be managed, and how The Friends of Noyes Park can work with them to make it the wonderful place it should be. Interested in jumping in? Check out the Friends of Noyes Park blog here or email the group at friendsofnoyes(at)gmail(dot)com. Noyes Park is located at 10th and Franklin Streets, NE.

  1. Love the blog! Just found it. I grew up in Brookland, and lived at 1026 Jackson Street in the 1950’s ands 1960’s until my family moved to Los Angeles. I went to Slowe, Noyes, and Brookland Elementary Schools (yes, I know Brookland is long gone), and remember the neighborhood as safe and fun. Whenever I’m in D.C. I try to drive around and check things out.
