This will be a busy weekend with lots of local activities and one of our favorites is the Gateway Arts District Open Studio Tour this Saturday, May 11 in nearby Brentwood Maryland. If you are interested in the local art scene, then we suggest you check it out.
The Studio Tour, now in its ninth year, will feature 17 Venues, 70 Studios and show the work of over 130 local area artists. The tour is organized and presented by the Gateway Community Development Corporation. The artists featured on the tour are professional artists working in just about every visual arts medium. The tour will give you access to art galleries, studios, cultural centers and performing spaces throughout the Prince George’s County Gateway Arts District. Check out the artists, venues and a map here. While you are studio hopping, make sure to stop by Urban Eats Arts and Music Cafe at 3311 Rhode Island Avenue in Mount Rainier, MD for a bite to eat while enjoying live music and the “Pop-Up Gallery” featuring the artwork of Mount Rainier Artists Lofts residents.
The tour begins at the Gateway Arts Center , 3901 Rhode Island Avenue in Brentwood, MD from 12:00 – 5:00pm. There will be a free shuttle bus to transport visitors to the studio locations and some studios are within walking distance. In the evening there will be an Opening Reception and After Party featuring artists from the 39th Street Gallery & Brentwood Arts Exchange. This event will be at the Gateway Arts Center from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm.
