Local beer lovers rejoice! Hellbender Brewing Company will be setting up shop soon here in Northeast DC, in nearby Riggs Park. Named after the largest salamander in North America, the brewery will start off brewing a Kölsch, a Red Ale and an IPA. Soon following will be seasonal beers, and specialty and limited productions. According to their website, their “primary focus will be providing bars and liquor stores within the District with 1/2 barrel kegs and six packs of cans”. But of course, they will have a tasting room. We have been following them closely on Facebook and are seeing hints of an early spring opening. Having recently returned from Belgium where the guys trained on brewing systems, soaked up knowledge and did a lot of tasting; they are working hard on building out the brewery. We will keep you posted. Hellbender will be located at  5788 2nd St. NE, Washington, DC 20011.

  1. I’m so excited to have Hellbender coming to the neighborhood. I’ve followed these guys since the brewery was just an idea between friends, and I can attest that Hellbender is some of the absolute best beer I’ve ever had! I hope everyone will try their beer and support this great local brewery.
