Homecoming at President Lincoln’s Cottage – Pony Rides, Arts And Crafts, And More

Although not in Brookland, one of our local gems worth checking out is nearby President Lincoln’s Cottage. The Cottage is the only public place where one can get a glimpse into Abraham Lincoln’s public and private life. This Homecoming event is a fun free event this Saturday, September 16 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. From the event page:

SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY:

  • 9 AM- The day kicks off with our annual Freedom 5K race. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER and more details about the race. **Please note you must register for the race separately.

  • 10 AM- Tot Dash: 100-yard Tot Dash for FREE following the 5k race. Register the morning of Saturday, September 16.

  • 10 AM- 3 PM: Homecoming continues with Family Day activities, FREE for all:

  • Explore a Civil War Encampent: View the 150th Pennsylvania Volunteers, better known as the Bucktails, who served as Lincoln’s personal guards

  • Pony Rides: It’s no secret Tad Lincoln loved keeping pets on the ground. Don’t let this chance slip by to ride a pony on Lincoln’s front lawn!

  • Arts and Crafts: Make cards for veterans, your family tree, and create your own top hat!

  • Picnic on the Grounds: Enjoy delicious food from our on-site vendors, or pack your own picnic and enjoy lunch at the picnic tables or on the ample South Lawn.

  • Story hour, music, and more!

President Lincoln’s Cottage is located at 140 Rock Creek Church Road NW.
