Back in May we wrote about Huacatay, a Peruvian style restaurant specializing in charcoal broiled chicken coming to 4th Street NE in nearby Edgewood. We are happy to write that the restaurant opened Friday and is definitely worth a visit, especially for those Brooklanders missing the yummy chicken we used to enjoy from Silvestre’s. We stopped by, tried a few dishes, spoke with the owners recently and took the photos below (you need flash to see the photos, if you can’t see them, click here.)
The restaurant is currently in its ‘soft opening’ phase, meaning that they quietly opened and are testing things out before going full steam ahead. Because of this, the menu is currently limited to broiled chicken and a number of sides, although in the near future they will expand offerings to items like grilled steak, and other Peruvian dishes. We ordered the charbroiled chicken with sides and the chicken sandwich special. Everything was fresh and tasty and a great value for the price. For example, a 1/4 chicken with 2 sides is $8.25 – not bad! Also, the staff was super friendly and the space was really warm and inviting, with exposed brick, and nice rustic touches like the baskets turned into overhead lighting. Huacatay is located at 2314 4th Street NE (across from the entrance to the Forman Mill’s parking lot). It is open from 11:00 am – 9:00 pm on Sunday -Thursday and from 11:00 am- 10:00 pm Friday and Saturday. Check out their Facebook page here.
