On Wednesday night, Brookland’s Turkey Thicket Recreation Center hosted an open house to inform the community about its fall programs. The event was well attended with residents of all age groups enjoying music and a myriad of activities from table tennis to dance instruction. A plethora of classes will be offered this fall including Double Dutch, Chess, Flag Football, Senior Tennis, Senior Walking Club, Senior Chair Exercise, Dance Explosion, Fitness Boot Camp, Zumba, Soccer with DC United, Youth Tennis, Hand Dancing, Basketball, Volleyball, Water Aerobics, Adult, Senior and Children Swimming Classes, and Senior Aerobics. Most classes are free and some (mostly the aquatic classes) have a small fee for residents. The Turkey Thicket website does not offer much in the way of class information, so you are better off going to the center, picking up a flyer about the class you are interested in or speaking to one of the helpful staff. Turkey Thicket is located at 1100 Michigan Ave, NE and is open Monday – Friday from 6:30 am – 8:00 pm, Saturday from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm and is closed Sundays.
