Brookland has seen it’s share of high-profile visitors lately. First Lady Michelle Obama visited in March, then Yo-yo Ma stopped by Noyes School in April, and now, last Thursday Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations visited Brookland Middle School. According to this press release from Mayor Bowser’s office:

Brookland Middle School is home to a green outdoor classroom, a solar learning station, geothermal heating and cooling system, exterior green wall, underground cisterns, rooftop solar array, pervious pavers, and more.

DC officials will hold a briefing for the Secretary-General on building sustainable schools, which will cover green construction, data driven efficiency, renewable energy, as well as waste reduction, recycling and composting.

Wow! How great for those kids. Brookland Middle School is located at 1150 Michigan Avenue, NE.
