370 Unit Apartment Building Planned For Brookland

Looks like the stretch of commercially zoned land along the Metro tracks near Rhode Island Ave will be seeing a lot of development soon. As we wrote about December, the Channing Place development will bring two six-story condo buildings that will replace vacant warehouses along the tracks. Now we have learned through ANC 5B04 Commissioner Barrios that  a ten story apartment building with 370 units is planned for 9th and Evarts. Here are details from his newsletter and a Tweet:

Important June 8th Community Meeting, 901 Evarts/Reed Street development presentation: The June Single Member District meeting will have a presentation from Adams Investment Company, which plans to re-develop a large parcel of land at and near Evarts and Reed streets. The plan is for a 370 unit apartment building. The development plots are zoned as C-2-C and the project will be by matter-of-right (which means that construction will fit the definition of the zoning, no zoning change is needed, and therefore the developer has the right to build it without approval from the Zoning Commission, ANC, etc.). The developer’s representative will discuss the plans at the meeting. Please join us to find out more. Meeting is Monday June 8th, Noyes Education Campus auditorium, 2725 10th St NE (enter on Franklin St side), 7 PM.

June ANC 5B meeting: the next ANC meeting is Wednesday June 24th, 6:30 pm, location TBD. Please check anc5b.org or my web page for updated location information.
