In January we wrote about the possibility of Pope Francis coming to our neighborhood when he visits this fall. This story in the Washington Post confirms the following:

The Archdiocese of Washington says the pope will celebrate Mass on Sept. 23 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Organizers say Francis will appear on the basilica’s east portico. The congregation is expected to assemble around the basilica on the university mall.

The Basilica is located at 400 Michigan Avenue, NE.

  1. I’m not Catholic, so his visit doesn’t resonate at all. However, if it means that DPW cleans up the deplorable amount of litter on Lincoln Road (and, to a lesser extent, 4th Street) the way they did prior to his last visit, then I wish the pope would visit DC every week!
